I was just checking out CenterNetworks today, and Allen Stern is talking about Napster raising prices. And he asks the question "Can someone help me understand what the draw is for becoming a Napster subscriber?"
Here is my response:
Subscription services rock!
I use Rhapsody. Same thing as Napster. Worth every penny.
There is a difference between radio (they pick the songs) and a flat rate jukebox where *you* pick the songs. I happen to think both are critically important, but you can't confuse them. And though I don't have an iPod (because they don't offer a subscription service), on my Samsung player I can fill it with *any* song I want from any artist. I would never sample so much music if I had to pay song by song. And I wouldn't buy all the oldies records I listen too. My current obsession is the Jackson 5.
The bottom line is these subscription services are the legal and honest way of doing what Limewire does. Beyond that, they all have a *far* better, faster and more convenient UI than the piracy services do. I love the convenience as well as the honesty of a paid, all you can eat, subscription service.

I found out something that you might find interesting to read, to complete or even enrich your view on the business model (or lack of a new one) in the music industry.
