Month One Down. You Guys Rock!

Thank all of you.

I have been blogging for one month now and I am overwhelmed by both the size, engagement, and intellect of you, my readers. I thought it would be fun to share some of what I have been seeing so you could understand exactly why I am overwhelmed.

Stats

about 150 subscribers
I say "about" because its clear that feedburner subscription stats are not precisely accurate. This week the stats went from 140,140,157, 147. I'm not sure whether to believe the jump or the drop, so I averaged. The subscriber stats generally go down over the weekend and then bounce back and grow. Obviously that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

11,885 unique visitors
I know I will not repeat this audience size for quite some time. The Mitch Kapor/Chandler stories got picked up by c|net, Reddit and a number of other amazing places. Reddit seems to spike traffic, but few of those visitors become regular readers. Outside the Reddit spike, I have been generally averaging 150-300 unique visitors per weekday.

18,128 page views
Again, this number will surely drop next month unless I have some other hit article. I have been generally averaging 300-600 page views per weekday.

approximately 33 comments
I say approximately 33 comments because the real number is 66 but perhaps a little less than half of them are my responses. I didn't want to count them manually, so I guessed.

Placement

I have also placed several articles on Silicon Alley Insider, including Never Need a VC, Value of IP going to zero, The end of the feature phone, and Steve Jobs. I think yesterday's article on Amazon Kindle is going to run today. And Geek Cred ran on Center Networks. I am very appreciative to both SAI and CenterNetworks, for giving my words a chance to occasionally reach very large audiences.

It is really interesting having discussions with people here, vs on other blogs. Center Networks and Silicon Alley Insider both have huge multi-hundred thousand reader audiences that are obviously far more diverse that we are over here.

Reviews

Read/Write Web, One of my favorite A-list blogs, linked to the Kapor/Chandler articles and had some really nice words about my piece. Then I had an incredible full blown review by fellow blogger Peter Christensen. Honestly I was overwhelmed by his kind words and description of this blog. You have no idea when you do something like this how people will react. Reading stuff like that is an incredible personal payoff.

I also really appreciate all of you who put this blog on your favorites or your blog roll. It is amazing to me that this blog could be anyone's favorite after only a month. I am truly humbled by all of you.

Again, thank all of you for reading.

the reason the sub count changes is because it's based on whoever "hits" your feed that day - so if 10 people don't hit it on saturday, your count will be 10 less. thats why the numbers flux so much...

keep up the good work!

Thanks for the insight Allen. Its a shame they don't have a better way to figure it out, but that is good to know.

Again, thank's for Center Networks support. Oh, and like I told you yesterday, you were *excellent* on the panel.

People are really bored at work. They will read your site while there because they would rather not work. At home on weekends they are running around trying to do family activities.
